How to Apply for NACA Homebuyer Program

Step 1: Attend a free NACA homebuyer workshop (available online or in person).

Step 2: Work with a NACA counselor to become NACA-qualified — this includes budgeting, saving, and resolving credit issues. NACA uses character-based lending and does not use FICO scores.

Step 3: Get pre-approved through NACA's lending partner.

Step 4: Find a home and submit an offer.

Step 5: Close with no down payment, no closing costs, and a below-market rate.

Notes

Added March 2026. NACA is a national nonprofit with a local Raleigh-Durham office. Their mortgage product has no down payment, no closing costs, no fees, no PMI, and offers below-market interest rates. Does not use FICO scores — character-based lending. Requires participation in NACA's counseling and qualification process, which can take several months. Source: naca.com.
