How to Apply
- Step 1:
Check your eligibility. Review income limits for the High Point City-Wide program (very low-to-moderate income, or 80% AMI) and note that the Core City Incentive Program has no income restrictions. Asset limits for city programs are under $20,000.
- Step 2:
Complete homebuyer education. A minimum of 8 hours of pre-purchase homebuyer education is required. Contact the Housing Consultants Group at (336) 553-0946 ext. 1 for class schedules and enrollment. The Housing Consultants Group is a HUD-approved counseling agency located at 804 Lindsay Street, High Point, NC 27262.
- Step 3:
Get pre-approved for a mortgage. Work with a participating lender. If applying for the NC Home Advantage Mortgage, use an NCHFA-approved lender to access up to $15,000 in state down payment assistance. You'll need a credit score of at least 640 for state programs.
- Step 4:
Contact the City of High Point Affordable Housing Division at (336) 553-0946 to discuss which city programs fit your situation and begin the application process. You must invest a minimum of $500 toward the purchase for the City-Wide program.
