- Income limits: At or below 80% of Linn County Area Median Income, adjusted for household size.
- First-time buyer required: Yes — Has not owned a home (or has not had ownership interest in a primary residence) in the last three years.
- Credit score minimum: 640
- Geographic restrictions: Home must be within Cedar Rapids city limits. Must be single-family, owner-occupied primary residence.
- Homebuyer education required: Yes
How to Apply for Cedar Rapids First Time Home Buyer Program
Step 1: Call Jennifer Barten at 319-286-5872 or email jbarten@cedar-rapids.org to request the application packet. Complete HUD-approved homebuyer education through Horizons, A Family Service Alliance. Get pre-approved with an approved lender. Find an eligible home within Cedar Rapids city limits. Submit the completed application, including proof of income, education certificate, and purchase contract, to the City. The City will inspect the home for program compliance. Receive written commitment letter and closing instructions.
