  • Income limits: At or below 120% County Median Income. Grant tiers: 80% CMI or less = up to 20% of purchase price; 81-100% CMI = up to 15%; 101-120% CMI = up to 10%.
  • First-time buyer required: Yes — Must be a first-time homebuyer as defined by HUD.
  • Geographic restrictions: Must purchase a home within the City of La Crosse.
  • Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for City of La Crosse Down Payment Assistance Program

Step 1: Apply online at portal.neighborlysoftware.com/LACROSSEWI/Participant. Applicant must provide a cash contribution of $1,000 or 1% of purchase price (whichever is greater). Maximum total cash assets of $25,000. Must obtain a 30-year fixed rate mortgage. Must complete a HUD-approved first-time homebuyer education class.

Notes

Funded with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Monthly mortgage payments cannot exceed 30% of applicant income. Ineligible properties include land contract, rent-to-own, and mobile homes.
