How to Apply for City of Columbia Homeownership Assistance Program
Step 1: 1. Verify your household income is at or below HUD low-to-moderate income guidelines for the Columbia MSA. 2. Complete HUD-certified homeownership counseling (Love Columbia and Consumer Credit and Budget Counseling are local HUD-approved options). 3. Get pre-approved with a participating lender. Confirm your credit score is at least 600. 4. Have your loan officer contact the City of Columbia Housing Programs Division at housingprograms@como.gov or 573-874-7288 to initiate the assistance request. 5. Contribute at least $500 of your own cash toward the purchase. 6. Close on your home within Columbia city limits and plan to occupy as your primary residence through the full 10-year forgiveness term.
Notes
Funds must be used for down payment and/or closing costs (prepaid taxes and insurance are not eligible) or to reduce principal. Minimum $500 buyer contribution required.
