- Income limits: Must meet HUD low-income limits for Morgan County
- First-time buyer required: Yes — Must not have owned a home in the last three years and must never have participated in the Decatur HOME program before.
- Geographic restrictions: Home must be located within Decatur city limits.
- Homebuyer education required: Yes
How to Apply for Decatur H.O.M.E. Program
Step 1: Contact a Preferred Decatur H.O.M.E. Realtor or mortgage company to begin your application. You must first obtain mortgage loan approval. Complete homebuyer education through the Community Investment Corporation of Decatur (CICD) or another HUD-approved counseling agency. Contact the City of Decatur Department of Community Development at (256) 351-7754 for more information.
Notes
Program has assisted over 400 families in reaching homeownership over 17+ years. The City allocates CDBG/HOME funds annually for this program. Amount increased from $4,500 to up to $15,000 for blighted properties in 2024.
