Restrictive agreements govern the occupancy, refinance, and resale price of properties during the initial 30 years of ownership. After 30 years, unit must still be offered to Fairfax County but resale price may be set by the owner.

Eligibility

  • Income limits: 70% to 100% of Area Median Income (based on household size)
  • Purchase price limit: $500,000
  • First-time buyer required: No
  • Geographic restrictions: WDU townhomes and condominiums are located within market-rate developments throughout Fairfax County near employment centers and transportation.
  • Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for Fairfax County Workforce Dwelling Unit (WDU) Homebuyer Program

Step 1: Complete the 5-step application process to receive a Passport to Homeownership. Start by attending a Homeownership Orientation and completing a Virginia Housing Homebuyer Education Course. Contact homeownership@fairfaxcounty.gov or call 703-246-5087.

Notes

Homes are priced below market value. Applicants may not have an ownership interest in real property at time of purchase. Must live in home as primary residence. No renting allowed. Must contact Fairfax County before refinancing. Income eligibility recently amended from 80-120% AMI to 70-100% AMI.
