Eligibility

  • Income limits: Household income must be at or below 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) as determined by HUD.
  • First-time buyer required: Yes — Applicant must not have owned a home in the past three years.
  • Geographic restrictions: Property must be under contract in Habitat KC's service area: Jackson, Platte, or Clay County in Missouri, or Wyandotte, Leavenworth, or Johnson County in Kansas.
  • Homebuyer education required: No

How to Apply for Habitat KC Down Payment Assistance Grant

Step 1: 1. Get a property under contract in Habitat KC's service area. 2. Confirm your household income is at or below 80% AMI and that you have not owned a home in the past 3 years. 3. Confirm your debt-to-income (DTI) ratio is under 45%. 4. Submit the application and required documents through Habitat KC. 5. Habitat KC will review and approve or deny within 5 business days of receiving all documents.

Notes

Eligibility also requires a DTI ratio under 45%. Funding availability can change; verify current status with Habitat KC before making plans around this grant.
