Zero-interest second mortgage with no monthly payments. Completely forgiven after 7 years of owner-occupancy as primary residence.

Eligibility

Income limits: Single-person household earning less than $56,480 qualifies for maximum amount. Must have less than $30,000 in assets.
First-time buyer required: No
Geographic restrictions: Must purchase a home within Ingham County.
Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for Ingham County Down Payment Assistance Program

Step 1: Get pre-approved for a mortgage by a first mortgage lender. Complete a homebuyer education course. Submit application to Capital Area Housing Partnership at 600 W Maple St, Suite D, Lansing, MI 48906 or email dpa@capitalareahousing.org.

Funded through a $15 million grant from the State of Michigan. Loan amount adjusted based on household need including recurring monthly expenses. Can be combined with employer-assisted down payment initiatives and Individual Development Accounts.
