Eligibility

  • Income limits: IDA match is reserved for participants at or below 80% of area median income.
  • First-time buyer required: Yes — Open to Black Americans pursuing first-time homeownership in Waterloo or Cedar Falls.
  • Geographic restrictions: Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa only. Program was created to address the Cedar Valley area's severe Black homeownership gap.
  • Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for PROJECT HOME by 24/7 BLAC

Step 1: Register for the free PROJECT HOME classes on the 24/7 BLAC website. Complete the Homebuyer Education Program, meet with coaches, and work with participating banks (Community Bank and Trust, U.S. Bank, Wells Fargo, Veridian Credit Union). To qualify for the Veridian IDA match, open an Individual Development Account and save toward homeownership.

Created in 2019 after a 24/7 Wall Street report named Waterloo/Cedar Falls the worst U.S. metro for Black Americans. As of recent reporting, 57 participants have completed homebuyer education and 14 have closed on homes. Verify current cohort availability with 24/7 BLAC.
