Eligibility

  • Income limits: At or below 80% of Area Median Income
  • First-time buyer required: No
  • Geographic restrictions: Serves all towns in Washington County, Rhode Island, including South Kingstown, Narragansett, North Kingstown, Charlestown, Hopkinton, Westerly, Exeter, and Richmond.
  • Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for South County Habitat for Humanity Homeownership Program

Step 1: Applications are accepted periodically when new homes are available. Visit southcountyhabitat.org for current application windows. Applicants must demonstrate need for decent shelter, ability to repay an affordable mortgage, and willingness to complete required Sweat Equity hours and homebuyer education classes.

Founded in 1990. Has built 61 homes and repaired or made accessibility modifications on 44 more, serving 120 families. Currently the only nonprofit affordable homeownership builder in Washington County. Partners with URI students for builds. Applicants must complete Sweat Equity hours on construction.
