Up to $50,000 (income below 100% AMI) or up to $35,000 (income 101-135% AMI) (Deferred Loan)

No interest and no monthly payments. Repayment is due in full when you refinance, transfer the title, sell the home, or no longer live there as your primary residence.

  • Income limits: Below 100% AMI for the $50,000 tier; 101-135% AMI for the $35,000 tier
  • First-time buyer required: Yes — Must not have owned a home in the past 3 years.
  • Geographic restrictions: Must purchase a home within the City of Boston.
  • Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for Boston First-Time Homebuyer Program

Step 1: Complete the Boston Home Center Homebuyer 101 class, get pre-approved for a mortgage, find a home in Boston, then apply through the Boston Home Center for DPA funding.

Notes

Grant amount is calculated as a percentage of purchase price: 3% for buyers under 100% AMI (max $50,000) and 2% for buyers between 101-135% AMI (max $35,000). Closing cost assistance may also be included.
