Homeowners purchase at below-market price and resell to CHT at a fixed price, earning a controlled amount of equity. Homes remain permanently affordable.
Eligibility
- Income limits: Must earn 80% or below the Area Median Income (AMI)
- First-time buyer required: Yes — Must be a first-time homebuyer or not have owned a home within the last three years.
- Geographic restrictions: Must live or work in Orange County, NC. Home must be primary residence.
- Homebuyer education required: Yes
How to Apply for Community Home Trust Homeownership Program
Step 1: Contact Community Home Trust at 919-967-1545 or visit communityhometrust.org. Applicants must attend an 8-hour Certified First Time Homebuyers' Education class, which is free.

Community land trust model — 334 homes currently in inventory across Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Since 1999, nearly 280 families have purchased homes and not one has been foreclosed on. Homebuyer education classes are taught by certified educators and local experts.
