How much assistance
Up to $35,000 in principal reduction, plus up to $5,000 in closing costs and down payment assistance (Grant)
Principal reduction applied at purchase. Closing cost assistance does not need to be repaid.
Eligibility
- Income limits: 60% to 80% of Area Median Income for El Paso, as published by HUD annually
- First-time buyer required: Yes — Must not have owned a home in the past 3 years.
- Geographic restrictions: Must purchase within El Paso city limits.
- Homebuyer education required: Yes
How to Apply for GECU Home Purchase Assistance Program
Step 1: Contact GECU to confirm current program availability and income limits.
Step 2: Complete a Financial Education and Homeownership course offered through GECU's financial coaching program.
Step 3: Gather required documents including proof of income, identification, and proof of El Paso residency.
Step 4: Ensure you have a minimum of $1,000 of your own funds for your personal investment.
Step 5: Apply through GECU and work with their lending team to find a qualifying home.
Notes
Applicants cannot have more than $25,000 in non-pension savings. Must provide proof of residency within El Paso city limits. GECU is also a HUD-approved housing counseling agency.
