No-interest mortgage for the life of the loan. Home is sold at no profit.
Eligibility
- Income limits: Household income must be between 30% and 80% of the area median income for Beaufort County.
- First-time buyer required: Yes — Must demonstrate need for safe, decent, and affordable housing.
- Geographic restrictions: Must reside in southern Beaufort County (south of the Broad River) or Jasper County. Homes are built in these areas including Hilton Head Island and Bluffton.
- Homebuyer education required: Yes
How to Apply for Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry Homeownership Program
Step 1: Pick up an application at the Habitat office at 21 Brendan Lane, Bluffton, SC, Monday through Thursday 9am-3pm. The program requires completion of homeownership classes and at least 300 hours of sweat equity. Contact Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry for current application periods.

Since 1990, Habitat of the Lowcountry has put 192 families into homes. They are the only organization in the region creating new homes for residents earning between 30% and 80% AMI. Currently building homes on Hilton Head Island near Spanish Wells Road.
