Haverhill First Time Homebuyer Assistance Program
How much assistance
Up to $15,000 for downpayment and/or closing costs (Forgivable Loan)
0% interest loan with a 5-year term. Every year the buyer lives in the property as a primary residence, 20% of the original balance is forgiven. Fully forgiven after 5 years.
Eligibility
- Income limits: Low-to-moderate income households (up to 80% AMI)
- First-time buyer required: Yes — Must not have owned a home in the past three years.
- Geographic restrictions: Must purchase a property located in the Mount Washington neighborhood or the Lower Acre neighborhood of Haverhill.
- Homebuyer education required: Yes
How to Apply for Haverhill First Time Homebuyer Assistance Program
Step 1: Confirm you are purchasing in the Mount Washington or Lower Acre neighborhood.
Step 2: Complete a first-time homebuyer education course.
Step 3: A minimum of 1.5% of the purchase price must come from your own savings.
Step 4: Contact the Community Development Department at Haverhill City Hall, 4 Summer Street, Haverhill MA 01830. Call 311 (within city limits) or 978-358-1311.
Notes
Funded through federal HOME Partnership Investment funds. Geographic restriction limits this program to two specific Haverhill neighborhoods. Community Action Inc. (CAI) at 3 Washington Square, 4th Floor, Haverhill also provides homebuyer education and DPA assistance.
