  • Income limits: At or below 80% of King County Area Median Income; family must be a current KCHA Housing Choice Voucher participant.

  • Geographic restrictions: Home must be located within King County, Washington (outside the cities of Seattle and Renton, which operate their own housing authorities).

How to Apply for King County Housing Authority Homeownership Voucher Program

Step 1: Already be a King County Housing Authority Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) participant in good standing. Request information about the Homeownership Voucher Program from your KCHA caseworker. Complete a HUD-approved homebuyer education course. Meet minimum income requirements from employment (disability income counts for disabled households). Work with a participating lender to get mortgage pre-approval. Find and purchase a home that meets KCHA inspection standards. KCHA applies your voucher subsidy to your monthly mortgage payment instead of rent.

Notes

This program is only open to existing KCHA voucher holders. The KCHA waitlist for new vouchers is typically closed and opens periodically via lottery. Program serves King County outside Seattle and Renton city limits. Verify current eligibility and available resources with KCHA.
