Lafayette First-Time Homebuyer Down Payment Assistance
How much assistance
Up to $8,000 at 5% interest for down payment and/or closing costs (Zero-Interest Loan)
The loan is secured with a second mortgage over a 15-year term at 5% interest ($63.26 monthly payment). If the homebuyer no longer occupies the home as their principal residence before the end of the 15-year term, the loan is due in full. No pre-payment penalty.
Eligibility
- Income limits: Low to moderate income as determined by HUD for Lafayette Parish.
- First-time buyer required: Yes — Must not have owned a home as a primary residence in the past 3 years, or must be a displaced homemaker.
- Geographic restrictions: Must purchase a home within Lafayette Parish.
- Homebuyer education required: Yes

Step 1: Contact Lafayette Consolidated Government Housing Loans Section at 337-291-5450 or HousingLoans@lafayettela.gov. You can also reach the Lafayette Public Trust Finance Authority at 337-504-2314. Must complete homebuyer education. Apply through a private lender licensed by the Louisiana Office of Financial Institutions.
