Up to $25,000; City employees (City, School, Police, Fire departments) eligible for additional $10,000 for up to $35,000 total (Grant)

No repayment required as long as homebuyer occupies the property as primary residence for 5 years.

  • Income limits: Household income at or below 120% of area median income
  • First-time buyer required: Yes
  • Geographic restrictions: Must be a current New Bedford resident. Property must be located in New Bedford.
  • Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for New Bedford Enhanced First-Time Homebuyer Program

Step 1: Contact Alexandra Vasconcelos, Affordable Housing Specialist, at 508-979-1500 or Alexandra.Vasconcelos@newbedford-ma.gov. Must complete a CHAPA-approved homebuyer education seminar. Must agree to live in the property as primary residence.

Funded through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Program availability subject to remaining ARPA allocation.
