  • Income limits: At or below moderate income levels as defined by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation
  • Purchase price limit: $510,939
  • First-time buyer required: Yes — Must qualify as a first-time homebuyer under the HUD definition (have not owned a home in the past 3 years).
  • Geographic restrictions: Must purchase within Sumter County.
  • Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for Sumter County SHIP Down Payment Assistance Program

Step 1: Applications are accepted during open enrollment periods. Visit the Sumter County website or contact the Housing office for current application cycle dates. Applicants must complete a HUD-approved homebuyer education course.

Notes

Funded through SHIP. Eligible costs include down payment, closing costs, first mortgage buy-down, surveys, appraisals, and inspections. Mobile, manufactured, and modular homes are NOT eligible. Application cycle is seasonal and may be closed at times.
