Zero-percent interest mortgage with affordable monthly payments based on household income.
Eligibility
- Income limits: Must earn 50-80% of HUD's Area Median Income (AMI) for Sumter area
- First-time buyer required: No
- Geographic restrictions: Must live in Sumter County for at least 12 months. Must be willing to live within Sumter city limits in available Habitat homes.
- Homebuyer education required: Yes
How to Apply for Sumter Habitat for Humanity Homeownership
Step 1: Attend a Homeowner Application Meeting held by Sumter Habitat for Humanity. The application process takes about three months, followed by 10-15 months for construction and sweat equity. Must complete 300 HIP (Homebuyer in-Process) volunteer hours including construction, ReStore work, education, and community engagement. Notes
No traditional down payment required. Applicants must have two years of continuous employment and be at their current job for one year.
