Eligibility

  • Income limits: Must meet VHFA income limits. Combined liquid assets must be less than $30,000.
  • First-time buyer required: Yes — All borrowers and non-borrowing spouses must be true first-time homebuyers (never owned a home). At least one person taking title must have parents/guardians who never owned a home, or parents/guardians who lost their home to foreclosure, or have been in foster care.
  • Credit score minimum: 640
  • Geographic restrictions: Available statewide in Vermont.
  • Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for VHFA First Generation Homebuyer Grant

Step 1: Apply through a VHFA participating lender when obtaining a VHFA MOVE, MOVE MCC, or ADVANTAGE mortgage. Grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis while funds last.

Notes

Can be combined with VHFA ASSIST for up to $25,000 in total assistance. Funding is limited and available first-come, first-served.
