Monthly Housing Choice Voucher subsidy applied to mortgage payment in place of rent (Government-Guaranteed Mortgage)
Voucher assistance for up to 15 years on a mortgage of 20 years or longer; 10 years for mortgages shorter than 20 years.
Eligibility
- Income limits: Eligibility limited to current Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher participants meeting YHA program-specific income and employment standards.
- First-time buyer required: Yes — No member of the household has had an ownership interest in any residence during the three years preceding commencement of homeownership assistance.
- Geographic restrictions: Properties must be in Yakima County (including Yakima, Sunnyside, Toppenish, Wapato, Union Gap, Selah, Zillah, Naches, Moxee) or Kittitas County.
- Homebuyer education required: Yes
How to Apply for Yakima Housing Authority Homeownership Voucher Program
Step 1: Must be an active Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher participant with YHA for at least one year and owe no money to YHA or any other housing authority. Head of household must be employed full-time (30+ hours/week) for at least one year (unless elderly or disabled). Contact YHA to begin the homeownership application.
Notes
HUD requires at least 1% of the down payment to come from the buyer's own funds. Buyers may layer other DPA sources on top of the voucher subsidy for remaining down payment and closing costs.
