MIHUs are sold at affordable prices set by DHCD, significantly below comparable market-rate homes.
Eligibility
- Income limits: Household income less than 80% of the Howard County Area Median Income (AMI).
- First-time buyer required: No
- Geographic restrictions: Must purchase a designated Moderate Income Housing Unit in Howard County.
- Homebuyer education required: No
How to Apply for Howard County Moderate Income Housing Unit (MIHU) Program
Step 1: Complete an application during one of four open enrollment periods held quarterly (January, April, July, and October). Eligible applicants are placed in a database and notified when MIHUs become available. Selection is by lottery. Contact 410-313-6318 option 2 or housing@howardcountymd.gov.
Notes
Inclusionary zoning program requiring developers to sell 10-15% of units to moderate-income households. Purchasing preferences given to first-time buyers, those living or working in Howard County, and County government, school system, or nonprofit employees. Prices vary by unit size, bedrooms, and amenities.
