  • First-time buyer required: Yes — Must be a first-generation homebuyer, meaning neither you, your parents, nor your spouse (or spouse's parents) have ever owned a home in the US, or lost a home to foreclosure.

  • Homebuyer education required: Yes

How to Apply for MAHA STASH First-Gen Home Program

Step 1: Apply to the STASH program through MAHA. Accepted applicants complete 8 hours of financial literacy and homebuyer education via Zoom, save at least $2,000 in a STASH-specific savings account, and upon closing on a home receive up to a 2-to-1 savings match.

Notes

The STASH program is the first matched savings program of its kind in the country for first-generation homebuyers. The Boston grant amount is $10,000, while grants outside Boston can be up to $20,000.
