How to Apply
- Step 1:
Check your eligibility. Most programs require household income at or below 80% of Area Median Income for Volusia County. The Volusia County Homebuyer Assistance Program also requires that you have not owned a home in the past 3 years and have lived in Volusia County for at least 12 months.
- Step 2:
Complete homebuyer education. A HUD-approved homebuyer education course is required for most programs. Mid-Florida Housing Partnership in Daytona Beach offers HUD-certified First-Time Homebuyer Workshops for Volusia County residents. Call them at (386) 255-0695 to register.
- Step 3:
Contact an Affordable Housing Partner. The Volusia County Homebuyer Assistance Program requires you to apply through an Affordable Housing Partner (AHP). Call Volusia County Community Assistance at (386) 736-5955 or email communityassistance@volusia.org to get connected with an AHP near you.
- Step 4:
Get pre-approved for a mortgage. Work with a Florida Housing-approved lender to get pre-approved for a first mortgage. This is required before you can access state programs like Florida Hometown Heroes or Florida Assist.
- Step 5:
Find a home within program limits. The Volusia County Homebuyer Assistance Program covers homes priced up to $327,750. Make sure your target home falls within the purchase price limits of the programs you are applying for.
- Step 6:
Submit your application and close. Once you have identified a home and are pre-approved, your Affordable Housing Partner and lender will help you submit applications for all eligible programs. Expect the process to take 30 to 60 days from application to closing.
