How to Apply
- Step 1:
Check your eligibility. The Missouri City First Time Homebuyer Program requires you to meet HUD income limits and first-time buyer definition. The Fort Bend County HFC program requires income at or below 120% AMI. You must be a legal U.S. resident for city programs.
- Step 2:
Complete homebuyer education. State programs through TSAHC and TDHCA require an approved homebuyer education course before closing.
- Step 3:
Contact the City of Missouri City Community Development Division at (281) 403-8628 or cdbg@missouricitytx.gov to learn about current assistance amounts and apply for the city's First Time Homebuyer Program.
- Step 4:
Apply for the Fort Bend County HFC Down Payment Assistance Program. Contact Sonia Aldrett at Covenant Capital at (713) 383-7273 or Sonia@CovenantCapital.org for up to $5,000 in assistance. This program is first-come, first-served.
- Step 5:
Get pre-approved for a mortgage. Work with a TSAHC-approved lender for state programs. A minimum 620 credit score is typically required for state programs.
- Step 6:
Apply for state programs. Complete the TSAHC eligibility quiz at tsahc.org to see if you qualify for Home Sweet Texas or Homes for Texas Heroes grants of up to 5% of your loan amount.
- Step 7:
Find a home and close. Your home must be within Missouri City incorporated areas for the city program and within Fort Bend County for the county program. Your lender will coordinate assistance funds at closing.
