How to Apply
- Step 1:
Check your eligibility. Your household income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for Broward County, and you must be a first-time homebuyer (no homeownership in the past 3 years).
- Step 2:
Complete homebuyer education. Attend a mandatory 8-hour HUD-approved homebuyer education workshop. Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida offers courses and can be reached at (305) 751-5511. The Urban League of Broward County also offers monthly workshops on the 2nd Saturday at (954) 584-0777.
- Step 3:
Contact the City of Plantation Housing & Grants Division. Reach out to the Planning, Zoning & Economic Development department at (954) 797-2623 to learn about the current application window and begin your application for the Plantation First-Time Homebuyer Assistance Program.
- Step 4:
Apply for the Broward County Homebuyer Purchase Assistance Program. Contact the Broward County Housing Finance Division at (954) 357-4900 to apply for up to $80,000 in additional assistance, which can be layered with the Plantation city program.
- Step 5:
Get pre-approved for a mortgage. Work with an FHA, VA, USDA, or conventional lender. Both the city and county assistance can be paired with these loan types.
- Step 6:
Find a home within Plantation city limits. The property must be located within Plantation municipal boundaries and serve as your primary residence.
- Step 7:
Submit your complete application. Your lender will coordinate with the city and county to finalize the assistance package. Allow 5-6 weeks for county approval once a complete package is submitted.
